Challenge
| PC-based POS systems are a popular means of accepting payments in restaurants and retail, with a host of features designed to streamline customer service. Most of these merchants integrate a payment application with the POS software running on a PC-based system. While these systems work well, they are marked by a few key inefficiencies. First, hosting the payment application on a PC creates a security issue, as networked PCs can be vulnerable to attack from viruses and hackers. Second, achieving and maintaining PCI and PA-DSS compliance is costly and time consuming for those who develop these systems. Finally, upgrading or making changes to software on the system is cumbersome. |
Solution
Merchants, equipment vendors and processors can take advantage of the TransNet™ solution to improve the way payments are managed. TransNet is a payment engine application that is housed on a secure router. When integrated with a PC-based POS System, it seamlessly performs the payment function in the background, with all user interfaces remaining the same.
Advanced cardholder data security is one of the key benefits of choosing TransNet to process payments. Software vendors who sell applications for these PC-based systems can offload the responsibility of PA-DSS(formerly PABP) compliance - TransNet is PA-DSS validated and is always up to date. This feature allows developers to focus on their core business, rather than devote scarce resources to PA-DSS. In addition, because TransNet is router based, the payment application no longer resides on the vulnerable PC. TransNet even helps the merchant maintain PCI compliance, with default settings that cannot be changed by the user.
Enhanced management capabilities are another reason that developers, processors and merchants turn to TransNet. For many in the industry who are managing multiple locations, TransNet allows network administrators to deploy application updates to multiple locations at the click of a mouse. TransNet provides a consistent application across all locations, while the user retains their existing system. In this way, each location can be using a different system, but with TransNet working behind the scenes, updates and other changes can be accommodated easily.

How It Works

TransNet works transparently, constructing the transaction into its appropriate format for transport from the PC-based POS system to the processor's host. The POSLynx220 transports these transactions to the host, while delivering peace of mind with features such as SSL, field tested firewalling and automatic dial back-up. TransNet can work with any existing application, providing the comfort of known interfaces with the security of TransNet, behind the scenes
